Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 4, 2026
AeroWeather ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at aeroweather.us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
Information We Collect
When You Use the Service
Each time you generate a chart, we collect:
- Route information — departure, destination, waypoints, and flight parameters (altitude, airspeed, departure time, display preferences).
- Anonymized IP address and user agent — provided automatically by your browser with every web request. IP addresses are truncated before storage (the last octet is zeroed for IPv4; the last 64 bits are zeroed for IPv6) so that individual devices cannot be identified from stored data.
- Request timestamp and performance data — when the request was made and how long it took to process.
What We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect names, email addresses, or contact information (there are no user accounts).
- We do not use advertising trackers or third-party tracking pixels.
- We do not collect GPS location or device sensor data.
- We do not store full IP addresses — all IPs are anonymized before being written to our database.
How We Use Your Information
- Chart generation — route and flight parameters are used to produce your weather cross-section chart.
- Operational monitoring — IP addresses, routes, and response times are logged so we can monitor service health, diagnose errors, and understand usage patterns.
- Service improvement — aggregate, anonymized usage data (e.g., total charts per day, average response times) helps us prioritize features and capacity.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Third-Party Data Sources
AeroWeather retrieves weather and navigation data from public government sources. These services receive standard HTTP requests but do not receive your IP address or any user-identifying information — all data fetching is done server-side.
- NOAA / NCEP — GFS forecast model data
- FAA Aviation Weather Center — PIREPs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, TFRs
- FAA NASR — airports, navaids, airspace boundaries, obstacles
Website Analytics
We use Umami, a self-hosted, privacy-focused analytics tool, to understand how visitors use the site. Umami does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track visitors across websites. We collect aggregate statistics such as page views, referral sources, browser types, and country of origin. No individual visitor can be identified from this data. All analytics data is stored on our own servers and is not shared with third parties.
Cookies
AeroWeather uses a single session cookie for authenticated admin users to maintain login state. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party cookie services. No cookies are set for regular (non-admin) site visitors.
Data Retention
Chart request logs (anonymized IP address, route, timestamp, response time) are retained for operational monitoring and are periodically purged. We do not maintain long-term archives of individual request data.
Data Security
All connections to aeroweather.us are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. Access to operational logs is restricted to authorized administrators.
Do Not Track
We do not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) browser signals. Our analytics are anonymous and cookie-free, so no personal tracking occurs regardless of your DNT setting. We respect Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals; because we do not sell or share personal information, GPC signals do not change our data practices, which are already privacy-preserving by default.
Your Rights
Since we do not maintain user accounts or collect personally identifiable information, there is no personal data to manage. If you have questions about data we may hold or wish to request deletion of request logs, contact us at the address below.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
